Wilkinson Bulldog Band

Jung Mour is a band director in the North Texas area. He has a long-term commitment to music education at the middle school level, where he focuses on developing strong band programs and supporting individual student musicianship.

Career in music education

Mr. Mour is currently in his 20th year in music education. For 16 of those years he served as a director at Lamar Middle School in Irving ISD, with 11 years as the director of bands. His responsibilities included teaching all performing bands and heterogeneous beginner classes.

In that role he also took on leadership beyond the classroom, serving as band department lead for the district and campus fine arts department chair. His professional involvement extends into the wider music teaching community: he has presented clinics at the Texas Bandmasters Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Midwest Clinic & Convention, and he stays active as a clinician and masterclass teacher around the DFW area.

Teaching philosophy and achievements

His work emphasizes individualized instruction and student-centered learning. He strives to meet students where they truly are, and to help them make consistent progress in both performance and music literacy.

That commitment has been recognized with Campus Teacher of the Year in 2020 and a district Teacher of the Year finalist nomination. Under his leadership, his bands have consistently earned superior ratings at UIL contests and Best-in-Class honors at festivals.

At Wilkinson

As of the 2026–2027 school year, Mr. Mour is starting his fourth year as Director of Bands at Wilkinson Middle School in Frisco ISD.

Away from the band hall

He lives in Melissa, Texas with his wife, Sandra, who teaches orchestra in Frisco ISD.

Beginning band is the first year of learning the instruments and there is no prior experience necessary. Instruments include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion. Oboe, bassoon and percussion are audition-based instruments, while all other instruments are based on an instrument fitting.

An instrument fitting is where the student gets one-on-one attention with a band director, trying multiple instruments to see which is the best fit physically and personality-wise. Since most instruments except percussion require air, the fit of the mouth to the mouthpiece is crucial.

Concert Band is not running yet — it is planned to launch in the 2027–28 school year. It has no dates on the current calendar.

This ensemble will be the natural next step after beginner band for 7th graders. Students will have four performances a year including the fall concert, winter concert, Pre-UIL and spring concert.

There will be no weekly sectionals. Instead, students will have an individualized learning plan built on objective pass-offs.

This ensemble is the second performance band in the Wilkinson band program, and it is two levels above beginner band. Rising 7th and 8th graders earn a spot by a year-long, comprehensive audition including attitude, practice habits, and the ability to showcase high levels of musicianship.

Students in this group are expected to attend weekly sectionals, performances and festivals, district and region auditions, solo contest, and UIL. Sectionals are when students continue to learn their instrument-specific skills, which they then use in context with the full band during class rehearsals. Advanced musicians are highly encouraged to participate in the district and region competitions.

Students are expected to practice 150 minutes each week on their instruments.

This ensemble is the premier performance ensemble in the Wilkinson band program, and it is three to five levels above beginner band. Rising 7th and 8th graders earn a spot by a year-long, comprehensive audition including attitude, practice habits, and the ability to showcase high levels of musicianship.

Students in this group are also expected to make the most sacrifice, attending sectionals, district and region competitions, solo contest, concerts and festivals, and UIL. Students are expected to practice 180+ minutes per week on their instruments.

This group also has two types of leadership positions, Band Lead and Section Leader, both application and audition based. The Honor Band performs at community-wide events like Build-A-Bark, pep rallies and football games.
